"H. pylori weakens the protective mucous layer of the stomach and duodenum, allowing acid to reach the sensitive lining under too. Both the acid and bacteria irritate the lining and cause a sore or ulcer.

A few sites have claimed that stastics duodenal ulcers more frequently than gastric ulcers, but hvaen't say why.
